After working up there for a few days, aches and pains setting in, I kept hearing this rustle in the leaves. I looked around to see nothing.
The rustle kept going for nearly an hour until I finally saw a mouse messing around my new footing.
I kept an eye on it and discovered it was a mother trying to get its young out of a hole that I disturbed when placing the center footing. You can see two of them here, on in her mouth and the other in the background about 10 inches behind her.
I decided to take a much needed break and sat to shoot pictures of the whole thing.
Side note:
To make my footings level, I used the ancient art of water levels. See in the for ground of this image is a clear plastic tub filled with water. (Make sure there is NO AIR). Holding the ends up at each footing, I was able to get the cabin level within 1/16 of an inch... I was pleased. That is a lot closer than our regular house back in Texas that has been standing for over 40 years.
