Subject: Floor for an eight sided cabin

Message: We went through several designs for the framing inder the floor of our cabin. It is an 8 sided cabin. We finally settled for a spoked wheel look and it worked out the best.

While decking the floor, when we cut waste from the plywood, the waste fit perfectly fit on the next row so there was no waste even to the end.

The floor sits on 9 footings, one big center and eight in a circle around. Each main spoke spans up to 14 feet. I used treated 2x8 with a box seal made from a 2x6 running the full length. Between the spokes on the outside 5 rings, I used more treated 2x8 finishing the rest with untreated 2x6.

I was concerned that the outside be more weather proof than the inside with the thought that water should not be able to get to that center once the roof is up.

The center hub of the wheel is quite ingenious. See my posting below on The Hub.
