Message: This hub was a while in development. It has 8 sides, on fer each spoke to butt up against. You can see the sample spoke to the left with the box seal 2x6 at the bottom. Notice the 2x6 box seal on the bottom comes to a point at the end, this helped hole the spokes in place as the floor was assebbled.
The whole contraption was bolted to the footing by threaded rod placed in the cement when it was wet. Once dried and bolted, this piece is as solid as a rock.
The 8x8 hole in the middle is where the center post of the cabin stands. We used a chain saw to trim the round trunk into an 8x8 for the bottom 20-30 inches or so. It fit in that hole then right down into the center footing.
This hub is made of 2x8 treated lumber. The copper strapping arond it is not important struturally. It was there just to hold it all together while I assembled the pieces. I left it there because I had used so many screws to put it on, it would be a waste to rip it off.
